765M and 15

$765 million and 15 years baby!

The day of December the 8th 2024 will go down in Mets history. The day Steve Cohen walked into Yankee Stadium, planted the Mets flag in center field and said to Hal Steinbrenner and the Yankees "this is my town now". Let's talk about it.

Juan Soto is a New York Metropolitan.

When I heard on Monday morning down here in Australia that Juan Soto's final decision was imminent and expected within hours, I knew my concentration levels that day were going to be non-existent. I spent the day refreshing all my social media feeds constantly just waiting for THE Jeff Passan tweet.

Although I said I was confident about the Mets getting Soto in my last blog, I have to admit that over the last couple of weeks I wasn't feeling great about our chances. I'd read so much in the media and on social media that if the offers from the Mets and Yankees were somewhat close, that Soto would choose the Yankees.

However, at about midday I saw a tweet that would completely change that. Bill Madden, a baseball writer for the NY Daily News tweeted, "Yankees deserve credit for apparently going well beyond their comfort zone at $750-760M for Soto but word now is Cohen is going to $800M. If so, he'll be alone."

Literally as soon as I read that tweet once, something inside of me just went "yeah I think it might be the Mets day." Sure enough about 35-40 minutes later, Jeff Passan along with numerous other sports reporters confirmed my suspicions. Juan Soto will be the new King of Queens.

I don't need to write too much more about what this signing means for the Mets. A future hall-of-famer who SHOULD go into Cooperstown as a Met in 20 years time. A future hall-of-famer that was stolen from the Yankees (and haven't they carried on about it). All the crap that the Yankees have hung on the Mets for YEARS has FINALLY come back to bite them.

Granted, the only way the Mets can justify this contract is if they win some World Series in the next 15 years, but for this moment, and for the next few months - let's just enjoy the fact that Juan Soto is a NEW YORK MET.

LGM,
Oscar
